Re: Nordtveit
Always been my opinion that a team needs a "water carrier" in front of the back four to close space and get a foot in etc. He like most our team could do with being half a yard quicker but what I like is that he is a physical presence not easily knocked off the ball and good in the air too.

I remember us being much better defensively when we lesser players like Matty Taylor and Gary O'Wall in this same role.

It does beg asking why Bilic has not thought about this earlier and tbh it looks like it has been forced on him through injuries. Longer term I still think we need another player in the central midfield but its a squad game and currently Nordtveit has, for me, edged ahead of Noble.

Anyway, as mentioned, it is still early days so lets see how he copes with Spurs and Liverpool. They will be a real test and being able to shackle the likes of Eriksson and Dembele and Wanyama will be key. Both Nordtveit and Kouyate will need to be at their very best.

His wife had a baby literally as soon as the season started also which may have made things hard for him.

Re: Nordtveit
Crassus is big enough to change his mind. I'd be interested to hear what he thinks.

I thought Nordtveit was dire too, looked weak and lost, but I couldn't help also thinking that he was possibly unsettled by the shambles that is our club. Simply not possible for a player with his track record to be that bad.

Will play when Obiang leaves.

Re: Nordtveit
Couple of big games against Spurs and Liverpool that will give us a good idea of his capabilities.
If he can step up then he can become a partner to Obiang or an alternative
People need to remember we need lots of players and competition. Obiang is injured at the moment. That is not an unusual occurrence at our club

You are such a bore Sidney, every thread that appears you turn it into a Bilic out thread.

Dull.

Re: Nordtveit
Given how badly Bilic has used our players I am actually withholding judgement on ALL players (except Callieri!) until Bilic has gone and the new man can actually have a look at them and come up with how to best use them.

We have a much better squad than most of the clubs around us, we have forgotten that because they have been so badly used. Their confidence must be smashed and their faith in Bilic must be shattered. Look at Ayew, remember him last season? Remember how he destroyed us in that game at the end of last season?

Re: Nordtveit
Two decent performances from him,but Obiang is my first choice for the defensive midfield role.
We've looked more secure with the three CBs and Adrian back in goal.
Unfortunately our attack is just woeful at PL level. I've seen much better attackers in the Championship. Its like playing with a couple of men short.

The ex Brossia Monchengladbach captain is a good central midfielder?

WHO'D HAVE THOUGHT IT?

Where's Crassus when you need him...

Re: Nordtveit
Personally it doesn't reflect on noble for me.

It does show what having an actual central defensive midfielder who sits in front of the back four bring to a team though. Fullbacks / wingbacks have a lot more protection and can get forward more (in theory).

Neither noble, obiang or Kouyate do that disciplined role for us in midfield. Whole point is that it should be a sitter like Nordviet, lanzini most advanced and one of obiang, Kouyate or noble. I'd always choose obiang over Kouyate over noble.

Except Noble isn't out of the picture but frankly, he did nothing to get back in the picture....

Looked good. Lets see how he against Spurs and Liverpool

Re: Nordtveit
Has made a big difference to our defending in the last 2 games. Does a lot of work off the ball, chasing and pressing. Is a physical presence too in the central midfield. Reminds me a little of Carrick although not in the same class passing wise he plays it simple, good in the air, tidy on the floor.

Also, arguably freeing Kouyate up who had his best game in a West Ham shirt for a year.

Re: Nordtveit
Good player. Circle peg in a round hole, makes a change - shame it takes the desperation of an injury crisis to make Bilic play someone in their natural position.

I've been a huge backer of Bilic, but his consistent disregard of a players natural position is unforgivable. For us to progress we need a change.

Bilic will keep us mid table, and if that is to be the target, then the board should admit it and we would all accept Bilic as manager. If they want top 6 and will invest the £75+mil net, then I think they should change then manager.

Tackling and passing the ball well are the very least a defensive midfielder should do.

He'll have to do a lot more to impress.

He is toilet
